The company’s central office is located in Kolkata, West Bengal. Key milestones in HCL’s history include the acquisition of the Khetri and Kolihan plants in Rajasthan and the Rakha Copper Project in Jharkhand from the National Mineral Development Corporation.
In 1972, the Indian Copper Corporation Limited in Jharkhand was nationalized and integrated into HCL, which later developed the Malanjkhand Copper Project in Madhya Pradesh—the largest hard rock open pit mine in India. In 1990, HCL commissioned a Continuous Cast Wire Rod plant using South Wire Technology at Taloja, Maharashtra. HCL’s shares are listed on multiple Indian stock exchanges, and in 2015, the Government of India reduced its stake in the company from 89.5% to 74.5%.
